Sherry Gordy, Mother, Philanthropist and Self-Made Entrepreneur, was born on May 23rd in Detroit, Michigan and is the daughter of the legendary music mogul Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records. Sherry was raised the majority of her life in Southern California, where Motown relocated after its vast expansion. Despite growing up in a privileged family, Sherry learned the importance of paving her own path in life for success. She epitomizes hard work, ethics and integrity, typically with long days and a busy schedule. At the tender age of 15, Sherry started her first part-time job after school; working for an Annuity Company.
Knowing the importance of education, after high school Sherry enrolled in College studying Business Administration. Sherry also took up acting at Estelle Harmon Academy in Hollywood. After recognizing the importance of making virtuous and clever lifestyle choices; she would ultimately lead to entrepreneurship. With her tremendous life experiences through education and becoming an independent strong business woman, Sherry gained her Real Estate Brokerage License. The complexity of the real estate business aroused in her a lasting interest building a career managing a few well known Mortgage Banking Companies, and then founded her own real estate and mortgage business.
Sherry was determined to learn different aspects of the business world, so she apprenticed at Motown, shadowing her father, nevertheless still determined to continue her mission of self-sufficiency, and her very first foray into entertainment production was the comedy dinner show Tickle Me Tuesdays Comedy Jam inside the Blue Note showroom on the Las Vegas Strip, and brought in comedians from across the nation who had been featured on stages from BET’s Comic View, Def Comedy Jam and more.
Sherry was introduced to philanthropy through her involvement in The Berry Gordy Family Foundation, where she recommended grants, conducted field audits, and presently serves as a Director. In 2004, she created her own Foundation. Her mission is to enhance the educational success, employment opportunities, and emotional health of children and young adults who face economic, social and emotional challenges through an array of programs designed to enable wise lifestyle choices and other opportunities.
In September 2014, Sherry received two awards from “The Las Vegas BMA Rock and Soul Hall of Fame. Entrepreneur of the year” and a BMA Image Award also Nominated for “Best Showroom Performance. Sherry also assisted in producing and promoting The Las Vegas Soul Festival 2014, at The UNLV Thomas & Mack Arena, which brought headlining acts like Cameo, Next, Con Funk Shun, Lenny Williams, and more to benefit the Lazarex Cancer Foundation.
Currently Sherry resides in Las Vegas, Nevada where she created “A-Series” inspired by Motown, Sherry Gordy Presents: Take The Stage An Open Mic Experience- WHERE YOU ARE THE STAR…the sounds of Motown & more” Her show has Live Entertainment, Dancing, and a Talent Showcase that will knock your socks off. It’s an exciting, Live Musical Variety Stage Show enlisting a combination of established nationally known artist, singers, poets, comics, musicians and veteran performers, in addition to new & upcoming artist. “The Series” has run over one full year, every Thursday Night at Club Tequila Showroom inside The Fiesta Rancho Hotel and Casino in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Also Sherry created Stage 2 Stage, a spin-off from “Take the Stage” a current national talent competition judged by Industry Professionals, where the winner receives, roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, and a 45-minute spot light, on her Las Vegas Stage.
